If you've ever wondered what it would be like to make real snow in your own backyard, you're in the right place.
At Backyard Snowstorm, we believe anyone can learn how to make real snow. You don't need to be a professional snowmaker or have a complicated commercial system. With the right snow gun, the right equipment, and the right conditions, you can turn your backyard into a snow-covered playground.
We've spent years researching, testing, building, and—most importantly—making a lot of snow. Our goal is to take what we've learned from professional snowmaking and make it accessible to homeowners.
Whether you want to build a sledding hill, cover your backyard in snow, create a winter playground for your kids, or simply experience the fun of making snow yourself, there is a Backyard Snowstorm snow gun designed to get you started.
What Is a Home Snow Making Machine?
A home snow making machine, commonly called a snow gun, uses water, air, and cold weather conditions to create real snow.
The process is similar to what you see at ski resorts. Water is broken into tiny droplets and sprayed into the cold air. At the same time, the snow gun creates tiny ice crystals that allow those droplets to freeze and form snow.
The result is real snow—not artificial snow or foam.
The biggest difference between backyard snowmaking and a ski resort is the size of the equipment. Instead of using massive commercial snowmaking systems, Backyard Snowstorm snow guns are designed specifically for residential use.
And that's what makes backyard snowmaking possible.
Which Home Snow Making Machine Is Right for You?
Backyard Snowstorm currently offers three snow guns designed for different levels of snowmaking: the Little Cloud, Forecaster, and Cold Front.
Each one can make real snow, but they are designed for different levels of output and different types of snowmakers.
Little Cloud: The Simplest Way to Start Making Snow
The Little Cloud is our smallest and most beginner-friendly snow gun.
What makes it unique is how simple the setup is. You don't need a pressure washer. The Little Cloud connects to a standard garden hose and air compressor, making it the easiest way to get started with real backyard snowmaking.
It operates at a fixed 0.7 GPM and is designed for smaller areas such as small backyards, walkways, sledding paths, or decorative snow.
If you've never made snow before and want the simplest possible setup, the Little Cloud is a great place to start.
Forecaster: The Best Snow Gun for Most People
The Forecaster is the backbone of Backyard Snowstorm and our featured snow gun.
It's designed to give homeowners significantly more snowmaking capability while still being easy to use. The Forecaster works with a pressure washer and air compressor and can operate across a wide range of water flow rates.
Depending on your pressure washer, the Forecaster can produce approximately 1–6 inches of snow per hour and cover an area around 12 feet by 25–50 feet.
The biggest advantage of the Forecaster is that you can start with a simple setup and expand it later. Backyard Snowstorm offers packages and expansion options that allow you to increase your snowmaking capacity as you learn more and want to make more snow.
For most homeowners who want to make a serious amount of snow without jumping into an oversized system, the Forecaster is the sweet spot.
Cold Front: For Serious Snowmakers
The Cold Front is designed for snowmakers who want to take things further.
It is built for higher-output snowmaking and larger areas, making it a great choice for bigger backyards, sledding hills, tubing areas, events, or anyone who simply wants to make a lot of snow.
The Cold Front can handle up to 10 GPM and can produce approximately 1–10 inches of snow per hour, depending on the water flow and conditions.
It also gives you room to expand your system over time, including the ability to use multiple pressure washers or pumps.
If your goal isn't just to make some snow, but to make a serious amount of snow, the Cold Front is built for you.
You Don't Have to Be an Expert to Make Snow
One of the biggest misconceptions about home snowmaking is that it must be complicated.
It doesn't.
Our snow guns are designed to make the process as straightforward as possible. They arrive assembled and tested, and we provide setup guides, videos, and resources to help you get started.
You can also use your own pressure washer and air compressor as long as they meet the requirements for your snow gun.
And if you're completely new to snowmaking, that's okay.
You don't need to know everything before you start. That's exactly why we've built Backyard Snowstorm—to give you the equipment and information you need to be successful.
