There’s a big difference between making something that looks like snow and making real snow.
Backyard Snowstorm snow guns are designed to produce real snow using professionally engineered components and a commercial-grade nucleation nozzle. The goal is simple: create the right conditions for water droplets to freeze into real snowflakes—not foam, not artificial snow, and not a spray of ice-cold water.
Real Snow, Not Fake Snow
Backyard Snowstorm makes real snow from water.
Our snow guns use high-pressure water and compressed air to create the conditions needed for real snowflake formation. The system creates tiny ice crystals that act as nucleation sites, allowing water droplets to freeze and form snow.
This is what makes Backyard Snowstorm different from products that create artificial or snow-like material.
When conditions are right, what comes out of a Backyard Snowstorm snow gun is real snow.
The Nucleation Nozzle Makes the Difference
One of the most important parts of a snow gun is the nucleation nozzle.
Backyard Snowstorm snow guns use a commercial-grade nucleation nozzle customized specifically for our snowmaking system. It is designed to create properly sized ice crystals that provide the foundation for snowflake formation.
The nozzle is designed around three important factors:
- Air and water mixing
- Proper water droplet size
- Spray pattern
The nucleation spray is designed to interact with the main water spray plume, allowing the ice crystals to contact the water droplets as they leave the snow gun. This helps create the conditions needed for high-quality snow formation.
Commercial-Quality Nucleation in a Residential Snow Gun
Backyard Snowstorm uses a nucleation design based on the same type of technology found in commercial snowmaking.
Commercial snow guns commonly use internal-mix nucleation systems because they provide efficient air and water mixing and consistent nucleation. Backyard Snowstorm uses a commercial-style internal-mix nucleator customized specifically for our snow guns.
This isn't simply a collection of fittings put together to spray water.
The nucleation system was designed specifically around the snow gun's water spray, with the nucleation spray pattern matched to the main water plume.
That attention to the interaction between the components is an important part of producing quality snow.
Proper Droplet Size Matters
Not every water droplet will become snow.
The size of the water droplets coming from the snow gun is important. Backyard Snowstorm uses custom stainless-steel misting nozzles designed to produce the appropriate water droplets for snowmaking. Each snow gun also includes nozzle options matched to different water flow rates.
When the water droplets and nucleation ice crystals are properly produced, they can interact in the air and form snow.
The result is snow that can accumulate instead of simply falling as water or forming unwanted ice.
Designed for High-Quality Snow
Every part of the snow gun has a purpose.
The misting nozzles create the main water spray. The nucleation nozzle creates the ice crystals. The spray patterns are designed to work together, and the nozzle configurations are matched to the water flow rate.
Backyard Snowstorm also uses components such as CNC-machined anodized aluminum, stainless-steel nozzles, specialized high-pressure internal components, water filtration, and air check valves in its snow gun designs.
These components are designed to work together as a complete snowmaking system.
The Result: Real Backyard Snow
You don't need to settle for something that simply looks like snow.
Backyard Snowstorm was designed to bring high-quality, real snowmaking to the backyard. Our snow guns use professionally engineered components and a commercial-grade nucleation system to create the ice crystals and water droplets needed for real snow formation.
Whether you're making snow for your kids, building a backyard sledding hill, creating a winter event, or simply want to experience the fun of making snow yourself, the goal is the same:
Real snow. Made in your backyard.
